Fuel Economy

The Honda CR-V offers two efficient engines. Each one is designed to help you have a smooth, capable drive and travel far in between stops for gas. The most efficient option is a 1.5L 4-cylinder engine with Turbocharger that can get up to an EPA-estimated 28 city MPG and 34 highway MPG.[i]

The Ford Escape also offers a few powertrains. However, none of them are as efficient as the Honda CR-V. Its 1.5L EcoBoost® engine is only able to get up to an EPA-estimated 23 MPG city and 30 MPG highway.

Passenger & Cargo Room

When comparing the Honda CR-V vs. Ford Escape, both models were designed to carry lots of cargo and comfortably seat up to five people. The Honda offers more space for both, though. Its trunk features 39.2 cubic feet of cargo room, and folding the back seats down can give you up to 75.8 cubic feet of space. The Escape only has 34.0 cubic feet of space in the trunk and just offers 68.0 cubic feet with the seats folded.

On top of giving you more storage space, the Honda interior also has more room for passengers to stretch out. There’s 105.9 cubic feet of passenger room. That gives you plenty of space for three passengers to sit together in the back seat with 40.4 inches of rear legroom and 55.6 inches of rear shoulder room.

The Ford only gives you 98.7 cubic feet of space throughout the interior. It’s a much tighter squeeze for your passengers, too. The second-row seats only offer 37.3 inches of legroom and 55.2 inches of rear shoulder room.

Safety & Driver-Assistance Features

When it comes to the Honda CR-V vs. Ford Escape, the Honda CR-V helps keep you safer with an Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) Body Structure and six airbags, including Side Curtain Airbags with a Rollover Sensor. It’s also packed with technology that can help you avoid accidents. The Honda Sensing® system gives you more awareness of what’s around your SUV with several advanced features, such as:

  • • Collision Mitigation Braking System™
  • • Road Departure Mitigation System
  • • Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow
  • • Lane Keeping Assist System

With its structurally sound frame, airbag system, and driver assistance features, the CR-V was named a 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).[ii]

The Ford Escape also features an advanced airbag system and offers several similar driver-assistance features. However, without the ACE™ Body Structure, it did not earn the same safety rating from IIHS.
