2027 Honda Passport Trim Levels: Every Difference From RT-L to TrailSport Elite Blackout
The 2027 Honda Passport is sold in three trims, RT-L at $45,195, TrailSport at $49,995 and TrailSport Elite at $53,695, plus two factory versions: RT-L Towing, which adds a Class III hitch for $700, and Blackout, a $1,500 appearance package for both TrailSport trims. All six share the 280-hp 3.5-liter V6, 10-speed automatic, i-VTM4 all-wheel drive, 5,000-lb tow rating and Honda Sensing. The $4,800 jump to TrailSport is about capability: 9.6 inches of clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch and a hitch. The $3,700 jump to TrailSport Elite is about comfort: perforated leather, ventilated and heated seats front and rear, Bose audio and a hands-free liftgate.
Around Peoria, the Passport trim question comes down to desert dirt and summer heat. The RT-L handles Loop 101 commutes with tri-zone climate control. The TrailSport adds the clearance and all-terrain tires for desert roads around Lake Pleasant, and the Elite adds ventilated seats.

What Changes for the Worse as You Step Up
Moving up a trim isn't purely additive. Here's what changes for the worse, so there are no surprises after you sign.
RT-L to TrailSport
- Leather. The RT-L's seats are leather-trimmed; the TrailSport's are HondaTex synthetic leather and cloth.
- A gray cabin. The TrailSport comes in black only; the RT-L offers black or gray.
- Mileage: 21 mpg combined drops to 20, and highway goes from 25 to 22 mpg.
- Headroom: 1.4 in. less up front (39.1 vs. 40.5 in.) and 1.1 in. less in back, with passenger volume falling from 119.1 to 115.4 cu ft.
- Departure angle: 25.3° on the TrailSport vs. 27.1° on the RT-L, even though approach angle and clearance improve.
- Height: 74.5 in. vs. 73.1 in., which matters with a roof box or a low garage.
- Tire speed rating: T-rated all-terrains (113T) instead of H-rated all-seasons (110H).
- Weight: 198 lbs more (4,676 vs. 4,478 lbs).
TrailSport to TrailSport Elite
- Orange ambient lighting. The Elite switches to white (it keeps the orange steering-wheel stitching).
- Matte Shark Gray wheels, swapped for Berlina Black machine-face alloys.
- 29 lbs of curb weight (4,705 vs. 4,676). Nothing functional is lost.
Standard to Blackout
- The standard wheel finish. Blackout wheels are black alloys on both TrailSport trims.
- $1,500, for appearance only. Capability and features don't change.
Passport Trim vs. Trim
RT-L vs. RT-L Towing
For $700, the RT-L Towing adds a factory Class III hitch with harness and hitch panel, nothing else. If you'll ever haul a trailer to Lake Pleasant, it's the version to get.
RT-L Towing vs. TrailSport
$4,100 apart, and both have a factory hitch. The TrailSport adds clearance, all-terrain tires, skid plates and TrailWatch, plus a moonroof, heated wheel and 115-volt outlets. The RT-L Towing keeps leather, the gray interior option and better highway mileage.
TrailSport vs. TrailSport Elite
The $3,700 step is all comfort: ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, perforated leather, Bose audio, a hands-free liftgate and rain-sensing wipers. Off-road hardware is identical. If you sit in your Passport through a the West Valley summer, the ventilated seats alone make the case.
TrailSport Blackout vs. TrailSport Elite
Only $2,200 apart, these are a style-versus-comfort decision. The Blackout gets the darker look; the Elite gets the comfort upgrades but keeps standard trim. You can have both in the Elite Blackout.
TrailSport Elite vs. Elite Blackout
$1,500 for black wheels, black badges and black skid garnishes. The equipment list is otherwise identical, so this is purely about the look.

Passport Test-Drive Checklist for Peoria Drivers
A test drive tells you more than any feature list, if you know what to look for.
- Sit in the back seat of both. The TrailSport's moonroof costs about an inch of rear headroom; see if you notice.
- Measure your garage door if you plan on a roof box. The TrailSport stands 74.5 in. tall before you add anything up top.
- Merge onto Loop 101 or Loop 303 and feel how the V6 and 10-speed pull. Set adaptive cruise and let it follow traffic.
- Pair your phone and sign into Google built-in before you leave the lot so you're testing your own maps and music.
- Bring your trailer plug type. The TrailSport's hitch uses a 7-pin connector.
- On a hot day, try the TrailSport Elite's ventilated seats against the TrailSport's HondaTex. It's the clearest way to judge that $3,700 step.
- Have us show you TrailWatch and the Multi-View cameras in the lot; they're most useful at tight trailheads and steep driveways.
- Fold the 60/40 rear seat and load what you actually haul: a cooler, a stroller, a kayak paddle. You get 44 cu ft behind the rear seat.
- If you can, take both trims toward the Carefree Highway. Listen for the difference between the RT-L's all-season tires and the TrailSport's all-terrains.
2027 Honda Passport Trim FAQs
How many 2027 Honda Passport trims are there?
Three trims, RT-L, TrailSport and TrailSport Elite, plus three factory versions built on them: RT-L Towing, TrailSport Blackout and TrailSport Elite Blackout.
How much is a fully loaded 2027 Passport?
The top version, the TrailSport Elite Blackout, is $55,195 MSRP. The lineup starts at $45,195 for the RT-L. Add $1,595 destination and $455 for premium paint.
Is the Passport TrailSport worth it over the RT-L?
If you'll leave pavement or tow, usually yes. For $4,800 more it adds 9.6 in. of clearance (vs. 8.3 in.), all-terrain tires, skid plates, recovery hooks, TrailWatch, a factory hitch, a moonroof, a heated wheel and 115-volt outlets. You give up real leather, a gray interior option and 1 mpg combined.
What's the difference between the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite?
Comfort. The Elite adds perforated leather, ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, Bose audio, second-row climate controls, a hands-free liftgate, rain-sensing wipers and sunshades for $3,700 more. Off-road equipment is the same.
Do I need the RT-L Towing to tow with a Passport?
Not necessarily, but it's the RT-L that comes with a factory Class III hitch and harness ($700 more). The TrailSport and TrailSport Elite include a hitch as standard.
What comes with the Passport Blackout package?
Black 18-inch alloy wheels, black Honda badges and black front and rear skid garnishes, for $1,500 on the TrailSport or TrailSport Elite. Equipment and capability are unchanged.
Does every 2027 Passport have all-wheel drive?
Yes. i-VTM4 torque-vectoring AWD is standard, with Trail Torque Logic and seven modes: Normal, ECON, Sport, Snow, Tow, Trail and Sand.
What is the 2027 Passport towing capacity?
5,000 lbs on every trim when properly equipped. The RT-L Towing and both TrailSport trims include a factory Class III hitch. Honda recommends premium fuel when towing more than 3,500 lbs.
What is HondaTex?
It's the durable synthetic leather Honda uses, with cloth, on the Passport TrailSport's seats. The RT-L uses leather-trimmed seats and the TrailSport Elite uses perforated leather.
Does the 2027 Honda Passport have a third row?
No. The Passport is a two-row SUV that seats five. For a third row, look at the Honda Pilot.
Is the 2027 Passport TrailSport lifted?
It rides higher than the RT-L. Honda reengineered the TrailSport suspension for 2027, giving 9.6 inches of ground clearance versus 8.3 inches on the RT-L.
Does the 2027 Passport need premium gas?
No. Regular unleaded is recommended. Honda does recommend premium fuel when towing more than 3,500 lbs. EPA ratings are 19/25/21 mpg (RT-L) and 18/22/20 (TrailSport trims).
What engine does the Passport TrailSport have?
The same engine as every Passport: a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 hp and 258 lb-ft, paired with a 10-speed automatic.
Which Passport trim should I get for driving around the West Valley?
For paved drives like the Carefree Highway, any Passport works, and the RT-L's all-season tires and mileage suit them. For desert dirt roads north of Lake Pleasant, the TrailSport's clearance, all-terrain tires and skid plates are worth it.
Does the Passport RT-L have a heated steering wheel?
No. A heated steering wheel is standard on the TrailSport and TrailSport Elite, but not the RT-L.
Which 2027 Passport has ventilated seats?
Only the TrailSport Elite, including the Elite Blackout. It also adds heated outboard rear seats.
Is Apple CarPlay standard on the 2027 Passport?
Yes, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on every trim, with Google built-in, Alexa Built-in and a wireless charger.
Is the 2027 Passport different from the 2026?
Yes, mostly on TrailSport trims: a reengineered suspension with 9.6 in. of clearance, new front styling with amber hood lights, and TrailWatch plus a heated wheel on the TrailSport. Blackout adds black fascias, and Smoke Blue Pearl replaces Obsidian Blue Pearl.
How big is the 2027 Passport's cargo area?
44 cu ft behind the second row on all trims, expanding to 104.6 cu ft on the RT-L or 104.4 cu ft on TrailSport trims with the seat folded.
